What is We Have Notes?

We Have Notes is a pop culture and entertainment newsletter from me, Abby Gardner—a person who consumes more content than the average human does or, frankly, should. 

Okay, but what does that mean?

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you threw together a Gen X Scorpio with a lifelong pop culture obsession, the ability to consume and log into memory massive amounts of entertainment and social media content, and an outright refusal to fully grow up? 

Throw in the desire to make everyone around me care as deeply about the often inane things I do...and that’s We Have Notes.

I started WHN in no small part because my friends and family were always asking me for recommendations for what I was watching, reading, listening to, and so on. Oh, and there’s a podcast of the same name now, too.

Each week we—and by we I mean the many personalities that reside in my over-stimulated brain—will be here to talk about all the things everybody’s talking about. 

And…who are you?

I’m Abby and I’ve been writing and editing in print and on the internet since the late ‘90s. Yes, way back when print was a thing. I started my career at Jane (RIP, you wonderful magazine) and have also worked at Allure, YM (also RIP, you teen dream), Fashionista, Marie Claire, Cosmo, and Glamour. 

I started as a beauty editor before diversifying my portfolio to cover everything from beauty and fashion to politics and pop culture. I spend entirely too much time online which means that while I’m proudly Gen X at my core, I have acquired some Millennial and Gen Z tendencies along the way…and I think I’m all the better for it. 

But long before I was writing about such things, I was doing my homework in front of the TV, devouring the People magazines and Soap Opera Digests my aunt would bring over to me after she read them, and developing what some might call unhealthy obsessions for fictional characters, singers, shows, movies, and such. 

Like I said, I’m a Scorpio. I either love something too much…or hate it. Middle ground is not really my vibe.
