I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends
💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Hi friends. And you are all my friends. Really and truly. I’m so grateful for you.
How are you doing during this terrible week? I hope you are taking care of yourselves however you need to. It’s been so much to take in and you can hear me rant and cry through a few thoughts during this week’s mini-pod. I do apologize for all the sniffles, but never for the rage or the tears or the expletives.
I’m sure many of you feel like I do. I am furious and heartbroken—and deeply unsurprised. And that’s one of the saddest parts, how unsurprising it is that sweet babies and their teachers were gunned down in a school in America. We all have to sit in that. All of us. We should read and watch every horrifying detail. And my god, the details. They get worse every time I open Twitter or turn on the news. THE POLICE (!!!!!!) LEFT THOSE BABIES TO DIE IN THAT ROOM. I am beside myself.

I know it seems so hopeless. I feel that way too, but we can’t give up. The population of this nation can barely agree on anything, but almost everybody believes in sensible gun control laws, like universal background checks, red flag laws, and assault rifle bans. I know we’ve been here before. Too many times. But we cannot stop.
So fuck the NRA and everyone who supports them and is supported by them. As far as I’m concerned, they stand for mass murder. Fuck the “good guys with guns” argument because that sure as hell didn’t work this week. Fuck the one door and the trap doors and all the door nonsense coming from people like Ted Cruz. And fuck the filibuster and any democrats who aren’t will to put it all on the line to make something REAL happen on gun control.
We’ve been voting—election after election. DO YOUR JOBS.
Be more like Chris Murphy and Beto O’Rourke and Steve Kerr. Take a stand and then do something about it, Congress and President Biden.
Our sports teams are out here doing more than many of our political leaders. Let’s keep holding those people accountable, on both sides of the aisle.
And more of this please, from platforms far and wide.
If you want to help, consider giving to Everytown or Beto’s campaign to become the next governor of Texas, unseating that hateful Greg Abbott, who went to a motherfucking fundraiser after the shooting and will be hosting the NRA today in Houston. (You know what’s not allowed inside that NRA meeting? GUNS.) I love Beto for many reasons, but one near the top is that he shows up and stands up when it matters most.

And now, much like on the pod where I did eventually pull my shit together, we will move on to other more We Have Notes-ian topics…in hopes of lightening your load (and my own) for just a couple minutes.
Onward…but first, one final politically-adjacent video that I hope warms your heart, even if it makes you feel old AF.

As for weekend watch plans, the major priority is seeing Top Gun: Maverick which I am fucking PUMPED about. I feel the need, the need for speed. My friends who went to screenings said it’s everything they wanted it to be. I CANNOT WAIT. More on this next week—and of course, any excuse to watch the extremely foundational to my sexual awakening volleyball scene.
Playing…playing with the boys!
Stranger Things is also back today and while I’m sure I’ll get into it once I start watching, I can’t say I’ve been waiting anxiously for the new eps. Honestly, I kind of can’t remember where we left off. Hopper’s in Russia and not dead right? I need to read a refresh recap.
Come and Knock On Our Door
Where better to start than with a charm bomb from Harry Styles.
While sadly garbage person James Corden is also there, we shall not be deterred. They’re knocking on doors in Brooklyn looking for a spot to shoot a video for “Daylight” and sweet god if that happened to me…yes, there would perhaps be some H-related merch that would need to be hidden so as to make the man feel safe. But I will say, I have nothing like that Harry Styles as Harry Potter drawing that one girl had. I see you, though, fellow Harrie/Directioner. I see you. (As anyone who’s been around here for a while knows, Potter is one of the few British Harrys I’m NOT obsessed with.)
Anyway, this is fun as hell and his charisma is just insane. What a magical witch. A darling boy in a Gucci ringer tee and a chunky éliou necklace.
Just treat him like he’s “Chris”.
You will also hear me rant about the racket that is Ticketmaster on the pod as tickets for Harry’s mini-residencies went on sale this week. That’s another thing we can all agree on: Ticketmaster SUCKKKKKKKKKKS. (I also vaguely went off on the Kravis wedding, but had very nice things to say about the end of This Is Us!!)
The whole ticket process was A LOT, but also a reminder that this fandom is the gd best in so many ways. We were all looking out for each other and it was, frankly, the heartening boost I needed in a dark time. Plus, at least SOME tickets were secured. I am currently accepting any and all favors/hookups for NYC, Chicago, or LA. I’m gonna get shameless this time around…but in a cool way. Obvs.
Have you all—Coven of Psychos aside—been listening to Harry’s House? What are you loving? A fun game my brain likes to play is which lyric will I arise to and have on a loop for the day…and of course I love it. I don’t know what it is about how he sings, “small concern with how the engine sounds” on “Keep Driving” but it slays my soul at the moment.
Also, the countdown to London is ON!!!!!!!!!!
Why’d You Do That, Karen?
RIP, Ray Liotta. My goodness, so many iconic performances. Of course, there is Goodfellas where he is simply everything.

I fell in love with his Shoeless Joe in Field of Dreams. That handsome face!
“Is this heaven?”
“No, it’s Iowa.”
Also, maybe go have a catch with your kids this weekend—if that’s something they’re into.

But let us never forget the iconic and important film, Heartbreakers, which also features a great Liotta performance—alongside Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
There are countless other fantastic roles and performances: his guest spot on ER, Unlawful Entry, Something Wild. The list goes on and on. Truly a sad loss—and he was only 67.

I Just Want to Make You Happier, Baby
Some things that made me smile…like how this tweet is so true lol. But also, this Pine era is just straight fire. LIVING FOR IT.
True, if also low-key terrifying.
Byyyyeeeeeeeeeee, Ellen.

Pop Crave @PopCrave
After nearly 19 years, ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ has officially ended. https://t.co/OcNOSAE0c9Pretty much. I’m so deeply back on my DCBS. And I don’t see myself giving it up again anytime soon.
Oh, and…
Depeche Mode keyboardist Andy Fletcher also died this week. It’s been a real fun one all around … We all know I think Mandy Moore deserves an Emmy for This Is Us and this Emma Fraser piece sums up a lot of the reasons why … A sit-down with Harry Lambert, stylist to Mr. Styles, Emma Corrin, and Josh O’Connor … I keep telling my dad he would be a great Boomer influencer, though of the cis-het variety … This is the kind of hella interesting life story I hope I can tell at 97 … Yes, please to Jodie Foster in True Detective S4.
Until next week, TPWK—unless it’s the NRA. Then all bets are off. Dance it out if you can. Love on your people. Find some joy. Fight the good fight. We can do this.
