A Few of My Favorite Phoebe Philo Fashion Moments
We officially have a date for the debut of the eponymous collection from the cool fashion girls' favorite cool fashion girl. Since it's not October 30 yet, let's take a look back...
Hello friends.
How’s your week going?
I’ve been using fashion to dissociate a lot as of late, and I’m certainly not mad at it—only that I don’t have unlimited funds to spend on Loewe and whatnot. Paris Fashion Week has wrapped up and sent god knows how many of its bedbugs back to NYC + LA + various other major cities.
But in happier news, on Saturday morning I (and many others) squealed with delight when an email arrived from Phoebe Philo with the launch date for her wildly anticipated new collection: October 30.
Happy early birthday to me!
Without seeing a single piece of clothing, I know that I will welcome any and everything as a birthday present. Manifesting that…just in case.
The email came with the date and this gif.
My friend Faran Krentcil broke the gif down for you here. There are few people I know with a greater brain for fashion references and history than Faran, so she’s the perfect person to look to in such moments.
I’d also recommend my friend Lauren Sherman’s reporting on Phoebe for Puck, where she runs the newishly-created fashion vertical. This particular Phoebe-centric piece she wrote came out just before we got the actual launch date, but has a lot of relevant context as to why this may have taken as long as it did. Lauren’s perspective on PP and all things fashion, particularly from a biz angle, is all-around fantastic. Hard recommend.
All three of us are former Fashionista editors—a fabulous group in general, if I do say so myself. That site has quite the sorority and I’m honored to be a member.
I am truly beside myself with excitement to see what Phoebe’s created. She is one of my favorite designers ever ever ever. If you don’t know, the long and short career story is that Phoebe’s a British, Central Saint Martin’s grad who started out as a design assistant for Stella McCartney’s Chloé in 1997 before taking over the brand from 2001-2006. After that she was creative director of Céline from 2008-2017. She was critically and commercially wildly successful.
Since then, we’ve all been waiting. Sometimes not so patiently because we love her that much. Now we know we’ll get our eyes on her LVMH-backed Phoebe Philo collection on October 30. She first announced this line was even happening in 2021 so WE ARE READY.
In anticipation, I give you some of my favorite Philo moments—Philoments?—from years gone by that will hopefully make you as psyched as I am to see what’s next. One thing about Phoebe’s designs is that they’re both directional and wearable. And that’s not always an easy needle to thread, pun intended.
